Logo der Edmonton OilersEdmonton. (PM) General Manager Craig MacTavish announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with right winger Boyd Gordon on a three year contract.

The 6’1″, 200-pound winger has spent the past two seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes, tallying 37 points (12G, 25A) and 18 penalty minutes in 123 games. He also registered two assists and six penalty minutes in 16 games with the Coyotes in the 2011-12 playoffs.

Gordon, 29, appeared in 48 games with the Coyotes in 2012-13, recording 14 points (4G, 10A) and eight penalty minutes.

The Unity, Saskatchewan native has played nine seasons in the NHL with the Washington Capitals and Phoenix Coyotes, accumulating 122 points (39G, 83A) and 100 penalty minutes in 486 career games.

Gordon spent time in American Hockey League over the course of four seasons with the Portland Pirates and the Hershey Bears, including winning the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears in 2005-06.

Gordon was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 1st round, 17th overall in the 2002 NHL Draft.

 

Oilers acquire Defenceman Philip Larsen

General Manager Craig MacTavish announced today the Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Philip Larsen and a 7th round selection in the 2016 NHL Draft, from the Dallas Stars, in exchange for centre Shawn Horcoff.

Larsen, 23, has spent the past four seasons with the Dallas Stars organization, registering 19 points (5G, 14A) and 34 penalty minutes in 95 games with the Stars. In 66 games with Texas, he has 31 points (5G, 26A).

 

In 2012-13, the 6’0″, 190-pound blueliner, recorded five points (2G,3A) and 18 penalty minutes in 32 games with Dallas.

The native of Esbjerg, Denmark has represented his country several times internationally, both at the World Junior Hockey Championships (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and the World Hockey Championships (2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013).

Larsen was originally selected by Dallas in the 5th round, 149th overall in the 2008 NHL Draft.

 

Oilers agree to terms with Jason Labarbera

General Manager Craig MacTavish announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with goaltender Jason Labarbera on a one year contract.

Labarbera, 33, has spent the past four seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes, appearing in 72 games, posting a 22-26-9 record with a 2.00 goals against average.

In 2012-13, the Burnaby, British Columbia native recorded a 4-6-2 record, including a 2.64 GAA and a .923 save percentage in 15 games with the Coyotes.

The 6’3″, 234-pound goaltender has 470 games of professional experience over the past 13 seasons, including 175 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks and Phoenix Coyotes.

Labarbera has earned several awards in the AHL, including a First Team AHL All-Star (2004, 2007), the Aldege Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL’s Top Goaltender (2004, 2007), the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL’s Most Valuable Player (2004), as well as the the Harry Holmes Memorial Award for AHL team with fewest goals against (2005, 2007).
